Villar to support billiards beyond 2010


Senate president Manny Villar announced that even beyond 2010, he will
be supporting the billiards development of the country that drew a
round of applause from the top-ranked cue artists led by Efren "Bata"
Reyes.

On Thursday's special edition of the Davao Sportswriters Association
(DSA) Forum at the Gerry's Grill Davao, Villar said that billiards is
one sport that Filipinos excel in the international scene that
deserves support.

He said that the organizers also decided to bring the event in Davao
to give Mindanao fans to take a close look of their billiards idols
like Efren "Bata" Reyes, Gandy Valle, Alex Pagulayan, Ronnie Alcano,
Warren Kiamco and Roberto Gomez.

Gaisano Mall of Davao is hosting the event on August 21 to 23 with
P800,000 cash prize at stake.

Gomez, who suffered a heart-breaking loss in the 2007 World Pool, said
he is ready for the competition and Valle, the Cebu leg champion,
added that the competition is going to be exciting and all top-ranked
players are ready for action.

Senator Villar said that there are plans to hold a World Pool
Championships in the Philippines but there are no details yet.

HGS 5-K, 10-K runs on Sunday

The Holiday Gym and Spa 5-K and 10-K races will kick off on Sunday,
August 10, 5:30 a.m. at the Holiday Gym and Spa compound in Torres
Street.
Mark Norman Malbog, HGS spokesman, said that they are expecting 300
runners to join the event that will offer prizes to the winners.
On Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower
Inn, Malbog said that they have organized the event as part of the HGS
Anniversary this month.
