PSA to honor Dabawenya

The Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) will be honoring national players including a Dabawenya who won gold medals in the 25th Southeast Asian Games on December 9 to 18 last year in Vientiane, Laos.

The PSA Awards Night presented by Coca-Cola is on March 1 at the Manila Hotel.

Golfer Chihiro Ayuban Ikeda of Davao City will be among the gold medallists to be honored by the oldest sportswriting fraternity. She bagged a gold in the women's individual category and helped the team win to share the team gold medal award.

For that feat, she received P300,000 for winning the individual gold and another P100,000 for a share of the team award from the Philippine Sports Commission (P100,000), Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001 (P100,000) and from the private sector (P100,000).

President Gloria M. Arroyo is the invited special guest of the Awards Night presented by by Smart, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Pacific Online System Corporation, Harbour Centre and the Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office.

Under the National Athletes, Coaches and Trainers Benefits and Incentives Act, other SEA Games medallists will also receive cash rewards. P50,000 will go to the silver medallists and P10,000 for the bronze medallists.

Other Dabawenyos who harvested medals in the biennial meet were Gandy "Yang-Yang" Valle (silver, men's 8-ball pool singles ), Shiela Mae Perez (silver, women's 3-meter springboard diving), NiƱo Carog (2 silvers,men's 3-meter springboard individual and 3-meter springboard synchronized diving), Zardo Domenios (silver, men's 3-meter springboard synchronized diving), Rexel Ryan Fabriga (silver, men's 10-meter platform synchronized diving and bronze, men's 10-meter platform), Jaime Asok (silver, men's 10-meter platform synchronized diving), Ruth Dugaduga (silver, women's judo 70 to 78 kilogram division), Frazier, Norton and Dexter Alamara (team silver medal, water polo).
