Busy year for shooting association

THE second half of the year will be a very busy one for the Philippine National Shooting Association.
Mikee Romero, the newly-installed PNSA president, on Tuesday said the group has lined up a total of 11 local and international tournaments from August up to December.
“It’s the first time we’re hosting and competing in tournaments one after the other,” said Romero during yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s along United Nations Avenue.
Romero graced the forum sponsored by Smart, Pagcor, Shakey’s, and Outlast Battery with PNSA executive director Larry Paredes, shooter Gay Corral and his executive assistant Eric Arejola.
Together they bared the calendar of activities starting off with the Rifle and Sniper Championship in Taytay, Rizal in August.
For September, on tap are the first Philippine Collegiate Shooting Championship under shooting champion Tac Padilla, the Combat Action Shotgun Championship and the SEASA Rifle and Pistol International Championship in Laos.
The Philippine National Open is set in October along with the Asian Shooting Conference and the Asian Airgun Championships in Kuwait. In November, it’s time for the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia and the Asian Shotgun Championships in Malaysia.
And lastly, in December, the PNSA will host the Philippine International Shotgun Open and the Philippine National Shotgun Open.
“We call this a shooting frenzy,” said Romero, who took over the presidency from Art Macapagal.
“But the Philippine International Shotgun Open from Dec. 6 to 14 will be the biggest so far under my watch. It will be the biggest event for the PNSA,” said Romero.
Paredes said for this event, they plan to bring in as many as 60 shooters from at least 15 countries, including those from the United States, Australia, Italy, India, Kuwait and Qatar.
“As I’ve said, we’re here to revive shooting, educate the people more about the sport, and tap as many shooters for the national pool to become future Olympians,” said Romero.(PSA PR)
