Phoenix Open golfest set March 6 at Palos

ONE million pesos in cash, a Kia Picanto, a Footon Blizzard and other valuable prizes are up for grabs in the 2nd Phoenix Open which tees off March 6 at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.
A stylish dual-sim Cherry Mobile R007 phone will be given away to every participant in the event, which is being held to highlight the Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Luzon brand and marketing associate Koyen Cipriano said around 250 golfers from all over the country are competing in the one-day tournament.
"Players are from all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are coming for this golf for a cause tournament that will benefit the charities of Phoenix Foundation. While some golfers who are also our business partners enjoy playing at the golf course, they also get to support the foundation," Cipriano said during the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.
Cipriano said each player's registration fee of P3,000 will all go to the Foundation.
Corporate media affairs head Ben Sur said Phoenix president Dennis Uy and chief operations officer Romy de Guzman will be on hand for the ceremonial tee-off of the golfest that offers P1M cash, a Kia Picanto, a Foton Blizzard as hole-in-one prize in all par 3 holes.
"We have improved from the first year we staged the tournament. We will make this an annual event in celebration of the Araw ng Dabaw and we will do our best to improve and become bigger every year," Sur said.
He said Royal Selangor Pewter Plate will also be awarded to the team and individual winners of the 18-hole systems 36 team and individual competition.
The event will have a shotgun tee-off set at 5:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m.
Awarding rites will be held at the RPVGCC clubhouse at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

PAL golf, DBL, Liga ni Butch topics
Atty.Domeng Duerme, vice president for Mindanao of the Philippine Airlines, is leading a list of guests on Feb.12's DSA Forum, 10:30 a.m. at the Tower Inn.
Former PBA player Cadel Mosqueda will also be gracing to talk about the 4th Duterte Basketball League (DBL), a grassroots basketball program for the youth.
Joining them is Jun Abrahan, tournament director of the Liga ni Butch that starts on Feb.14, also known as "Teacher's Day".
The weekly Forum is sponsored by Growee Multivitamins and Tower Inn.

1st PAFP golfest to raise funds for the poor
The 1st Philippine Academy of Family Physicians-Davao Chapter hopes to raise funds for the poor when it holds the 1st PAFP Open Golf Tournament on December 9 at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.
PAFP-Davao Chapter President Dr.Ana Liza Lanuza-Moscoso said that they intend to equip their Wellness Center at S.I.R. Matina which is serving the poor, especially children ages one to 12 years old, in coordination with the Davao City Health Office. Free consultation is given to the patients but they could not complete the laboratory tests because of the cost.
"We hope to raise the funds to buy laboratory equipment like a miscroscope and for CBC, urinalysis, stool exam," she said on Thursday's DSA Forum at the Tower Inn.
She said projects for health, education, surgeries and nutrition program are among the things they are currently working to help the marginalized sector.
"All the money that will be raised will be appropriated for the community," she said referring to the registration fee of P2,500.
Emcor has donated one motorcycle as one of the prizes for the tournament and an anonymous donor also came in to help them, she siad.
Help also came in from Pharma 3, Enterprise Bank, Pascual Laboratory, DPWH Malita, Ulticon Builders, Natrapharm, Atty.Bonifacio Military, LRI, Otsuka, Kiwanis Club of Cosmopolitan Detroit, Global Times, Stroke Society of the Philippines which is co-presenting the event.

DSA tackles PAFP golf, Elderlympics
Dr.Ana Moscoso and Councilor Leo Avila will lead guests on Thursday's DSA Forum, November 22, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.
Dr.Moscoso will talk about the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) Open Golf Tournament at the Rancho Palos Verdes Club while Avila will discuss the yearly Elderlympics set next month at the Rizal Memorial Colleges gym.
DSA President and Sports Editor Charles Raymond Maxey is requesting members to come on time.
