USPTA coaches arrive in Davao for tennis workshop, Paolo to induct DATEC officers

Coaches of the United States Professional Tennis Association arrived in Davao on Thursday to handle the Coaches Workshop and USPTA Certification for Coaches on April 18 to 20 at the Ecoland 2 Tennis Club.

Elmer Dolera, Ted Sayrahder, Brian Cunnif and Mark Allen were welcomed by Davao Association of Tennis Club officials led by Atty.Ed Caboverde, DATEC Tennis Academy Foundation vice-chairman Alex Bernan and board chairman Cerio Javellana.

The Americans, according to Javellana on Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at the Tower Inn, will teach and coach the players including parents seeking basics in coaching and players looking wanting to become tennis teachers as a part-time job.

“This is free of charge,” said Javellana.

Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils., Inc., Dunlop and Bernan are sponsoring the event.

DATEC started in 1983 with only three clubs and now it has 27 clubs whose presidents organized the Tennis Academy Foundation to cater to the needs of young tennis players in Southern Mindanao.

Councilor Paolo Z. Duterte is the inducting officer on April 19 at the Mintal Tennis Club.

The officers are Atty.Edgardo Caboverde (Monte Maria Tennis Club), president; Alex Bernan (Ecoland Tennis Center), vice-president; Engr.Carolina Angel (Eco2 Club), secretary; Engr.Glicerio Ronulo Jr. (Midland Club), treasurer; Rogelio Casal (Gem Club), auditor, provincial directors Atty.Joel Ray Lopez (Sta.Cruz Club), Col.Palawan Macadindang (Tagum Club), Atty.Pedro Mejos (Banaybanay Club), seeding committee chairman Engr.Ronnievic Mangaron (Davao Light Club), tournament director Alex Ferraren (Eco2 Club).

DSA Forum on April 17

KRU Almar Kelly E. Odiong, the accredited instructor of the Muay Association of the Philippines (MAP) in Davao City, and PhilCycling regional director Salvador Paholio Jr. lead Thursday’s (April 17) guests of the DSA Forum, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

Odiong will talk about MAP and its plans in Davao City while Paholio will discuss the Abante Grande Cycling Challenge set on April 29.

Joining them is University of Mindanao and Davao Region coach Roderick Conda to talk about the controversial loss to host Western Mindanao Region in the recent National PRISAA Championships.

DSA president Charles Maxey is requesting members to come on time to the weekly public service sports program sponsored by Tower Inn and Genesis 88 Advertising.

Coach E seminar on April 21-May 1

The Coach E Hoop Club will have its Davao sessions on April 21 to May 1 at the Montana gym in Agdao.
Atty.Manny Nitorreda, Davao coordinator, told sportswriters on Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn that participants can avail of discounts if they buy Ferlette capsules.
Coach Eric Altamirano will be arriving in Davao on April 19 to personally handle the clinic with the assistance of Davao coaches.
The basketball clinic is open to all boys and girls from five to 18 years old including those who want to properly learn to play the sport.
Registration fee is P3,000 for 10 sessions inclusive of a shirt.

Aussies to join Nat'l MDK C'ships

The 38th National Cup Moo Duk Kwan National Championships is on April 15 at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.
Organizer Steve Grandeza said that more than 100 participants are joining the event supported by RODY Project, Gaisano Mall and Asia United Bank.
Fifteen Australians are also coming to join the martial arts festival scheduled after the tournament. "We will also possibly have entries from the United Kingdom," Grandeza said on Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
The competition is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the festival is set at 6 to 8 p.m.
Host Davao City, Iligan City, Gen.Santos City, Tagum City, Panabo City, Cotabato City, Bohol, Bacolod City, Dumaguete City, Quezon City, Cavite and possibly from Cebu City are gunning for honors.
The Australians are arriving on April 12 for the two-day seminar on April 13 to 14 at the University of the Immaculate Conception-Bonifacio campus.

DSA Forum today

Basketball clinic and the PRISAA National Championships are the main topics of the DSA Forum today, 10:30 a.m. at the Tower Inn.


Atty.Manny Nitorreda will discuss the Coach Eric Altamirano basketball clinic while PRISAA Davao Region president Pete San Jose will talk about their participation to the national championships in Zamboanga City.


Joining them are Steve Grandeza who will discuss the National Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Championships.
