DSA tackles aikido, Primovit cagefest, chessfest at Tower Inn

Young Aikido practitioners and Primovit multivitamins officials are the guests of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum on Thursday, June 26, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

Sheldon Walter Wong, Nina Margarita Castrillo, Kevin Joshua Ian Abella, Kevin Jacob Ian Abella, Carmela Therese Arcena and Lorenzo Sato will be gracing the weekly public service sports program to talk about the Ateneo de Davao Aikido Club while Primovit's Reggie Radoc and Tiger Castanos will take up the basketball tournament that starts on June 28 at the Gaisano South Sky gym and the chess event that checks in on June 27.

Joining them are Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, vice-president of the Davao Sports Council Inc. and UM sports director to discuss various topics ranging from the So Kim Cheng Sports Awards and UM sports calendar.

Batucan, Acedo ready for Vietnam

Davao's youth standouts John Ray Batucan and Rowelyn Joy Acedo are going to Vietnam on June 9 for the ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships on June 11 to 20.

"I won't promise, but I will do my best," said Batucan on Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn. Batucan topped the national age-group qualifying tournament in Manila that earned him the Vietnam stint.

Batucan, son of taxi driver Neptali Jr., plays against a computer for four hours every day as part of his training.

And Acedo showed more confidence when she said. "Kaya," said a very confident Acedo who trains under coach Rowel Modina.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto said that their chess federation under former Surigao representative Prospero Pichay Jr. is bankrolling the participation of the players who will wear the national colors.

After their stint in Vietnam, Infiesto said the two players will play in Tagaytay for another tournament to determine the best players for the World Youth Chess Championships.

Meanwhile, Pichay is arriving in Davao City on May 26 for the opening ceremony of the Davao Open Chess Tournament at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Infiesto said participants will earn Fide ratings.

"The local government has supported us and 95 percent of the expenses will come from the private sector," he said.

Chess, basketball, volleyball topics of DSA Forum

Chess, basketball and volleyball are the topics of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum on Thursday, May 22, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn along Quirino Avenue.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines regional director James Infiesto, youth standout John Ray Batucan and his father Neptali Jr. will tackle about the young Batucan's participation to the ASEAN Chess Tournament in Vietnam.
Atty.Manny Nitorreda, National Basketball Training Center Davao commissioner, will talk more about the recent NBTC Davao's first cycle of training while officials from the Banker's Cup wil also be gracing the weekly public service sports program sponsored by Genesis 88 Advertising and Tower Inn.
Coach Exequiel Tomines is also joining the Forum to talk about an barangay volleyball tournament.
DSA president Charles Raymond Maxey is requesting members to come on time.

Jollibee kiddie crew includes sports clinics

Jollibee Foods Kiddie Crew has included sports events for the kids this summer.
Jollibee's spokesman Jay Madulara told sportswriters on Thursday's DSA Forum at the Tower Inn sponsored by Genesis 88 that participants will experience work as crew from Monday to Wednesday and enjoy sports clinics from Thursday to Saturday.
The sports events are basketball, badminton, table tennis and athletics.
Madulara said the Davao Sports Council Inc. under Councilor Peter Lavina is their partner in the conduct of the clinics.

DSA tackles GBL Cup

The Gene Boyd Lumawag Cup is the main topic of the DSA Forum on Thursday, April 24, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

Amalia Cabusao, tournament spokesperson, will discuss the details of the event scheduled on April 27.

Joining her are Paolo Tancontian of Jujitsu Davao, Rommel Tan of the Philippine Karatedo Federation and Habagat Davao officials.

DSA Forum on April 17

KRU Almar Kelly E. Odiong, the accredited instructor of the Muay Association of the Philippines (MAP) in Davao City, and PhilCycling regional director Salvador Paholio Jr. lead Thursday’s (April 17) guests of the DSA Forum, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

Odiong will talk about MAP and its plans in Davao City while Paholio will discuss the Abante Grande Cycling Challenge set on April 29.

Joining them is University of Mindanao and Davao Region coach Roderick Conda to talk about the controversial loss to host Western Mindanao Region in the recent National PRISAA Championships.

DSA tackles PRISAA Meet, RRD-Araw festival

The Regional PRISAA Meet and the Mayor Rodrigo Duterte-Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival are the topics of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum on Thursday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. at the Tower Inn.

Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Davao Region president Pedro San Jose and executive director Joaquin Sarabia will give details of the regional eliminations on March 14 to 16.

Paul Rabe of bowling, Friendee Nunez of table tennis and Nilda Sebellino of sepak takraw are among the guests who will talk about their respective events which is part of the RRD-Araw sports festival this year.

National senior golf team member Joe Marfori is also joining the weekly public service sports program sponsored by Tower Inn and Genesis 88 Advertising.

DSA Forum on Thursday

The new president of the Davao Horse Club, a Malaysia-bound triathlete and an official from the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) Cycling Challenge are the guests of the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum, 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, February 14, at the Tower Inn.

Pete Batu, the newly-elected President of the Davao Horse Club, will talk about the activities of the Club for this year while Paulo Ouano will discuss his participation to a triathlon competition in Malaysia.

Para Games medalists to grace DSA Forum

Differently-abled athletes and the chief operating officer of Holiday Gym and Spa are the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum guests on Thursday, January 31, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

John Henry Lopez, gold medalist in the recent Southeast Asian Para Games in Thailand, and table tennis bronze medalist Billy Cartera will talk about their experiences in the Games while Ivy Fernandez, Holiday's COO, will talk about their scheduled events.

Genesis 88 Advertising collides with ADDU

Genesis 88 Advertising collides with Ateneo de Davao University in the semifinals of the 2nd Escandor Cup on Saturday at the Emcor court in Bajada.

Game time is at 8 a.m.

The other semifinal game is between General Headquarters and Dasia Digos at 9:30 a.m.

Rosendo Omeres, who represented organizers on Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn, said that two more games will also be scheduled on Sunday.

General Headquarters, led by Gerome Escandor, takes on Ateneo at 8 a.m. while Genesis 88, headed by Glen Escandor, battles Dasia Digos at 9:30 a.m.

He said the tournament was designed by Col.Emil Escandor as a physical fitness program for their employees.

Aussies at DSA Forum

The visit of the Australian Sports Ambassadors and the Escandor Cup are the main topics of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum, Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn.

Coach Jeff Long and Pastor Gary Visitacion will give details of the Australians' purpose of coming to Davao for a series of exhibition games.

Rommel Pawaon, tournament director of the Escandor Cup, will give an update of the basketball tournament.

Joining them are Salvador Paholio Jr., PhilCycling XI Regional Director, for the cycling group's plans for this year.

The Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum resumes on Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Tower Inn with various topics to be discussed.

Invited as guests are Department of Education-City Schools Division Officer-In-Charge Helen Paguican who will talk about the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet and organizer Domingo “Bong” Vergara who will discuss about the Dover Tatlohan Tournament.

Basketball, baseball topics at DSA Forum

Atty.Manny Nitorreda, Davao Commissioner of the National Basketball Training Center, and Joaquin Sarabia, Regional Director of the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association, are the main guests of the DSA Forum on Thursday, January 10, at the Tower Inn.

Nitorreda will talk about the tryouts on Saturday at the Ateneo de Davao High School while Sarabia will discuss the Davao City Baseball Cup presented by the Datu Uchida Development Foundation.
