Davao bets to compete in Pan-Asian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu International

Davao City martial artists are competing in the 2008 Pan-Asian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu International Tournament on May 3 to 4 at the Mall of Asia in Manila.
Seeing action are Julius Ceasar Macasaet Jr. and Jonevic Fuentes of Ateneo Judo Club, Ace Larida of Davao Masters Judo Club, Mars and Marco Cenojas of Cenojas Mix Martial Arts, Juanito Estimada and Thirdie Yasser Escovilla of UM Judo Club, Hamir Achacoso of Mandirigma and team captain Paolo Tancontian.
Escovilla, on Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn, said that jiu-jitsu became popular because of the Ultimate Fighting Championship that inspired the holding of big events even in Manila.
Escovilla, bronze medalist in the 2006 edition, said the players from Australia and Guam are among the tough opponents including from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
“We are requesting for your prayers and support to the team,” said Macasaet Jr. of Ateneo.
