List-up ends for Asics Davao Run

REGISTRATION for the Asics Davao Run winds up Friday at the RunClub located at the Plaza del Carmen, A. Loyola St., Barrio Obrero.

Organizer Ramon "Monchit" Mackay, appearing in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn, said slots for the 7K run are still open although the 15K and 4K categories are almost filled up.

Mackay said some 350 runners signed up for the 15K event that is being introduced for the first time in the city as a level-up for regular 10k runners who are not yet ready to race in the 21K.

"We have hit our target of 1,000 registrants as of this morning but we can go as much as 1,100 to 1,200. We are urging interested participants to catch up with the deadline of registration set tomorrow (Friday)," Mackay said.

He said the three categories were selected based on the clamor of runners in RunClub's Facebook account to increase the distances of the race. Regular races feature the 3K, 5K and 10K divisions.

Some P30,000 worth of Asics gift certificates await top performers and over P50,000 worth of items will be raffled off during the awarding rites including a brand new pair of Asics rubber shoes.

The first five men's and women's 15K finishers will receive P5,000, P4,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 worth of gift certificates while gift checks worth P4,000, P3,000 and P2,000 will be awarded to the first three men's and women's 7K placers. The top three men's and women's 4K runners, meanwhile, will take home P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 worth of gift checks.

Mackay also said that part of the proceeds of the event will benefit the Lamdag Foundation that caters to the welfare of women, young and old alike.

"Lamdag is going to build a center for women so we are helping them realize their project," Mackay said.

Registration fee is P350 inclusive of Asics singlet, race packet, light breakfast, Gatorade and finisher's certificate in the footrace being held in partnership with Sports Town and supported by Mix FM as official radio station and Sun.Star Davao as official media partner.

All registered runners will also avail of a one-time 15 percent discount on all regular Asics products until March 15 at Run Club.
