TAGUM City is ready to host the P600,000-rich 34th Fedbop Annual National Duckpin Bowling Championship Tournament set to roll off on May 2 to 7 at the Gold City Commercial Complex.
Federation of Duckpin Bowlers of the Philippines (Fedbop) Board member Emie Orteza, who is also president of the Sunday Bowlers Club, said Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy committed to sponsor P300,000 of the total cash prize and the fellowship night for hundreds of participants from all over the country.
"Mayor Uy's generous support is really a big boost to the tournament as it will not only give away cash prizes to team and masters game winners but also to youth bowlers. Tagum has always been a gracious host to the annual competition," Orteza said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn on Thursday.
He also cited Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario as among the major backers of the meet that will have Davao City and Zamboanga City defend the women's and men's team titles, respectively.
Davao City has held the ladies title for the past 10 years while SBC Daciba men's team was only a third-placer in last year's event held in Zamboanga City.
"Our men's team hopes to regain the championship that we won in Koronadal in 2005. We are confident of our chances this time considering that our bowlers have been preparing for the nationals through our weekly tournaments," Orteza said.
The SBC President's Cup is ongoing while the SBC Dalawahan Tournament will resume on Sunday. Preparations are also underway for the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Open Bowling Tournament on March 17 to 25.
Cash prizes of P60,000, P40,000, P30,000 and P20,000 await the top four teams of men's and women's divisions in the Fedbop annual championship.
The first four masters game winners in both categories will go home with P2,000, P1,500, P1,000 and 800 while the grand master bowler will get P2,000 and a trophy.
