34th Fedbop national bowlfest rolls Monday

IT'S all systems go for the 34th Annual National Fedbop Bowling Championships set to roll off on May 2 to 7 at the Gold City Commercial Complex in Tagum City.

Federation of Duckpin Bowlers of the Philippines (Fedbop) board member Emie Orteza, appearing in the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn on Thursday, said more than 500 pintopplers are seeing action in the event.

"Everything is set. Some 100 men's teams and 80 women's teams competing in the five-member team competition that offers huge cash prizes at stake," Orteza said.

The champion team in both divisions will receive P60,000 each while the next three placers will get P40,000, P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.

Cash prizes also await individual and youth category A, B, C, D, E winners and masters game top performers. The top 20 bowlers will also go home with cash rewards.

"This is the biggest Fedbop tournament, in terms of cash prizes. Even prizes for the youth winners were raised this year. The support of the city and provincial governments has really been a very big boost to duckpin bowling," Orteza said.

Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario and Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy are backing up the event organized by the Davao Province Bowlers Association (Daproba).

A motorcade from Tagum City Hall to the playing venue will usher in the opening of the bowlfest on Monday morning. A fellowship will also be held in the evening. (MLSA)
