BJMP to stage bikefest

SOME 800 riders are expected to see action in the First BJMP Ride Padyak sa Mayo Para sa Preso that will hit the road in an out-and-back course at SM City Davao.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) community relations service chief Junior Inspector Roberto Gotico said the 38-kilometer fun ride is a fund-raiser to support projects for the inmates' welfare.

"This is our first time to hold an activity like this but we are hoping Davao's cyclists will support our initiative," Cotico said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.

The bikefest, organized by Jail Officers on Bike, features the open elite, veterans 35 years old and above and junior 18 years old and below categories.

Cash prizes, trophies and medals await the top finishers of the event that will also give away trophies and medals to the fun ride A 34 years old and below and fun ride A 35 years old and above winners.

Special awards will also be given to the youngest and oldest riders, best lady bikers, undying spirit award and heaviest and lightest bike. Registration fee is P300 inclusive of souvenir jersey, snack, certificate and raffle stub.

Souvenir jerseys, however, will be made available on or before the May 2 deadline. Only shirts, however, will be given to the riders who will sign up after the deadline.

Registration forms are available at BJMP compound in Maa, 3mJ Trading in Matina and Buhangin, Boondocks Cycle at Matina Town Square, Bisikleta Atbpa in Balusong, Matina and GT Cycles. (MLSA)
