UP Law gives tribute to American lawyer George A. Malcolm

THE University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law gives tribute to the man responsible for the establishment of the first ever law college within the university through the staging of the 2011 Malcolm Cup-Centennial Edition at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s West Course next week.
The annual golfest will be hosted this year by silver jubilarian College of Law Class of 1986 led by its president Atty. Grace Quevedo-Panagsagan, who was at Tuesday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s U.N. Ave. along with batch members Atty. Inky Reyes and Atty. Cynthia Laureta.
Adding nostalgia to the July 28 meet is the 100-year celebration of the establishment of the U.P. College of Law in 1911 through the handiwork of American lawyer George A. Malcolm, to whom the tournament was named.
“The Malcolm Cup has been going on for several years now, and is usually hosted by the celebrating batch,” said Reyes in the weekly forum presented by Smart, Outlast Battery, PAGCOR and Shakey’s.
The 1986 batch of course, produced the memorable UAAP men’s basketball championship of State University in the post war era, behind a brilliant core anchored on Benjie Paras, Ronnie Magsanoc and Eric Altamirano, with the colorful Joe Lipa calling the shots from the bench.
Recollection of past events, especially those that happened within the campus 25 years ago, will definitely make up part of the one-day tournament, which also aims to foster fellowship and camaraderie among golfing alumni, members, friends, sponsors and supporters of the UP College of Law.
Reyes said he expects at least 144 participants to take part in the 18-hole event that stakes a brand-new Toyota Altis as a hole-in-one prize. The car is courtesy of Toyota Abad Santos.
With PAGCOR as co-presentor, the Malcolm Cup also serves as the fund-raising activity of the Class of 1986, stressed Panagsagan.(PSA PR)
