Journalists take center stage in 6th Lumawag Badminton Cup

ORGANIZERS on Thursday bared that interested participants will have only until 12 noon of Saturday to submit their entries for the 6th Gene Boyd Lumawag Badminton Cup.

Alger Dura, a member of the organizing committee, said the GMA Network was the first to submit its entries to the one-day free registration tournament set on Sunday at the Holiday Gym & Spa.

"We encourage other media outlets to sign up early so we can proceed with the drawing of lots and tournament proper right after the brief opening rites," Dura said in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.

Dura said entry forms are available at the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) through Roy Geonzon at telephone number (082) 225-0204, Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) through its president Charles Raymond A. Maxey at 235-1009, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) through Edith Isidro at 300-9392, Mindanews through Carolyn Arguillas at 297-4360 or Office of Councilor Leonardo Avila III at 227-0521 or (0921) 6121538.

He said all registration forms must be signed by editors or station managers.
"Walk-in participants may be allowed to play depending on the availability of slots," Dura said.

The event, which will also serve as thanksgiving of outgoing Councilor Avila to media practitioners, offers cash prizes to men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles top three placers.

The annual meet is organized in memory of slain Mindanews photojournalist Gene Boyd Lumawag. (MLSA)
