RTS run to benefit schools

NEW comfort rooms in selected public schools in Tugbok District will soon be built out for the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC)-Regional Training School (RTS)-Davao Region Run For A Cause.

RTS regional training director Eric Dampal, gracing the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday, said the run, which kicks off on July 4 in an out-and-back course at the Rizal Park, is dubbed "Pagmamalasakit sa Kapwa at Bansa Para sa Diyos."

Dampal said they aim to construct comfort rooms for Imelda Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Nino, Bago Oshiro Elementary School, Carmen Elementary School and New Loon Day Care Center.

"These schools have been our constant partners in the Police Immersion Program of the PSBRC students," Dampal said. "Our graduates have seen the need of these schools for decent comfort rooms and we want to extend our help by way of this running activity."

Dampal said they were encouraged to organize their own running event since the RTS in Davao Region had been a regular participant in various races in the past.

The event will have the 10-kilometer (K), 5K and 3K for 12 years and below categories, Dampal said.

"We will award minimal cash prizes and medals to the top three finishers of each category," he said.

The 10K champion will pocket P3,000 while the runner-up will get P2,000 and the third-placer will go home with P1,000. In 5K, the top three placers will get P1,500, P1,000 and P700 respectively.

Dampal said Marco Polo earlier confirmed its participation in the event.

Some 500 RTS trainees are also expected to show their wares in the race being managed by Kenneth Sai of the Vantage Sports Promotions.

Registration fee is P150 inclusive of singlet.

Interested participants may contact the RTS 11 at telephone number (082) 293-0280.
